Young Survival Coalition (YSC) is the premier global organization dedicated to the critical issues unique to young women diagnosed with breast cancer. YSC offers resources, connections and outreach so women feel supported, empowered and hopeful. With an interactive website and almost 30 affiliates across the United States, it is YSC’s goal that young women with breast cancer know that they are not alone.
YSC was formed in 1998 by three young women with breast cancer. Today, the YSC community consists of tens of thousands of survivors and supporters seeking to make sure that young survivors have the support and educational resources they so desperately need. As we increase our online presence and expand our affiliate structure, YSC continues to grow our support network, reaching well over 200,000 people every year.
YSC works with survivors, caregivers and the medical, research, advocacy and legislative communities to increase the quality and quantity of life for women diagnosed with breast cancer ages 40 and under.
In Our Community: Atlanta Programs
In the metro area alone, almost 500 young women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. YSC Atlanta is one of the oldest YSC affiliates serving 11 counties in the metro area. As the largest office outside of New York, YSC Atlantaoffers a comprehensive array of resources, connections, and outreach so women feel supported, empowered and hopeful.
The Resource Center is the largest of its kind in the Southeast. In addition to meeting space, we currently have a selection of books, brochures and decision tools available to young women. Similar to a library, constituents canaccess our resource center to take or check out materials through a sign insheet.
Newly Diagnosed Resource Kits:
This Resource Kit empowers and educates young women impacted by breast cancer. Designed especially for young women, it contains information on local programs, services and resources. The YSC Treatment Navigator, developed right here in Atlanta, helps in organizing appointments, medical records, questions and bills.
Support Programs & Educational Series:
We provide educational programming throughout the year and focus on such topics as long-term survivorship, fertility or reconstruction. We also hold monthly get togethers for social networking and support in addition to other programs that reduce the sense of isolation during a young woman’s journey.
The only program of its kind exclusive for young women, this initiative connects young survivors with trained community navigators. These navigators, each familiar with the woman’s current healthcare system, will help them understand options and help educate women on their choices.
This outreach campaign is designed to educate young women and all metro Atlanta OB/GYNs, primary care physicians and school health workers that young women CAN and DO get breast cancer.
YSC’s national and affiliate programs help young breast cancer survivors find meaning, comfort and hope during one of the most challenging periods of their lives. Knowing that for many women, a diagnosis of breast cancer is a lifelong journey, YSC provides courage through strength, support, community, knowledge and laughter.

Young Perspective Teleconferences:
YSC’s circle of support extends to women right in their own homes. Our Young Perspective teleconferences, available free of charge to U.S. and international callers, address issues critical to young women affected by breast cancer. Topics include breast cancer genetics, fertility and pregnancy, clinical trials, intimacy and sexuality and advanced (metastatic) breast cancer. Visit our calendar for upcoming teleconferences and archive for transcripts of previous teleconferences and presentations.
Living with Metastatic Cancer:
YSC has developed ongoing programs to reduce the sense of isolation, provide information and address the unique and often “whispered” issues surrounding metastatic breast cancer in young women, a particularly underserved population. Specific aspects of this program include an educational video for young women living with metastatic breast cancer (The Beautiful Eight), a bulletin board heading on our website and bi-monthly support and interactive teleconferences. For more information, visit our Metastatic Programs page or e-mail email@example.com.
Annual Conference for Young Women Affected by Breast Cancer
